So today I would like to share my simple understanding of the Hassio ecosystem. Of course, a photo cannot describe the good, the bad of a system, but perhaps this is the way that I think is the simplest way for anyone to have access.
1. System of smart speakers such as: Google Home, Amazon Echo, Apple Homepod.
In fact, in the HASS system without the above smart speakers, it’s okay, everything is still under your control. Since we simply need to go to HASS on the browser or on the phone App, we can turn the devices off.
But the nice thing about smart speakers is that you don’t need to use your phone or browser to access Hass anymore. Instead, we can issue voice commands to the smart speaker, and the smart speaker will command HASS, then HASS commands the devices we have connected to. Too convenient and the wrong “electric harm” is wrong, right?
2. System of SmartHome devices: all kinds of household electrical appliances, sensors and smart electrical equipment ….
Here I will divide these products into 3 main groups:
2.1. Infrared remote control electronic household products:
In our home there are a lot of things to use the controller, which is this TV, this electric fan, this air conditioner, this player, hood, etc. and so on and so on, in general, there are a lot of things, and each device has a handheld remote.
You look at the diagram above, then this group I put on the top (purple part). And now, instead of having to hold a dozen remote, long, short, big, small, and have to work hard to find every time to forget or struggle somewhere, people think of using only one remote device. It is possible to control all household appliances, and the owner only needs to hold the phone to control everything.
With this group of products, there are now quite a few central controllers, such as Broadlink RM Pro or Mini RM Broadlink 3.
The operation principle of Broadlink Control Center is quite simple,
Broadlink Center is capable of learning most of your infrared remote signals, meaning it will mimic the signals of the handheld remote you are using to replace these handheld remote. It is also possible to learn and play RF remote 315 or 433Mhz frequency controllers. Therefore, we can easily control TV, dvd, air conditioner, fan, lights … anywhere thanks to Broadlink application on smartphones with links to central devices.
2.2. Types of sensors using RF, ZigBee, Z-Wave waves …. (This type does not have Wifi chips)
You see in the next section as in Xiaomi, Sonoff, Samsung Smartthings will find themselves divided into each company divided into 2 product groups. The above group is a group of sensors using RF, ZigBee, Z-wave …, why are these devices not using Wifi but must use RF waves? simply because most of these are sensors, such as temperature and humidity sensors; motion sensor; Light Sensor; Water leak sensors, …. these sensors are scattered in our homes, and the main energy source of these sensors is Battery. Because of using the battery, we can only choose the solution that uses energy-saving RF waves instead of using more energy-efficient Wifi chips. Usually each sensor of this type just needs to change the battery once to run 2-3 years comfortably.
But as you know, these sensors can’t connect directly to HASS because there’s no wifi, but I don’t need to connect to my home network, right? So in order to work with these sensors, HASS needs to work through a transfer station (Base Station, often called the Central Controller).
For example, in the diagram, Xiaomi has some Mijia or Aqara units that are the Control Center of some sensors. Sonoff then has RF Bridge, Samsung has Smartthings Hub …. All these base stations have the main task of managing devices connected to it and mediating between HASS sensors and systems.
2.3. The device operates independently via Wifi wave.
In parallel with the devices operating via RF, Zigbee waves, Z-wave is the device that works dynamically via wifi. These devices connect directly to our home network, and also work directly with the HASS system. Like the Sonoff switches that I have introduced to you. In addition to looking at the diagram above, you may also realize that there are quite a number of devices that connect directly and independently like this, especially the Xiaomi children and grandchildren’s congregations, whatever is available, toothbrushes Also connected to HASS always new.
To be more intuitive, you can look at Xiaomi’s smart home system below:
In addition, HASS ecology also supports more than 1000 devices in all fields and industries, and in the future, this number will definitely not stop here.
So what’s the point here? Yes, please answer that through HASS we can combine a variety of devices to create a complete, synchronous, consistent and flexible system to be able to unleash the creativity of our home. me
Hopefully, through this sharing, people will get a better overview of HASS and its ecosystem. And in the article can not avoid errors, hope you sympathize to ignore. The next day I will go into the details section to be able to share more things for you.
