3 ways to remove software from macOS

After a long time of use, the computer (specifically in this article is a Mac ) will be full of “junk” files and software that we no longer use. Tired of opening up every time you see that the boot hard drive pop-ups are full or worse than dozens of updates of the software all year long, we haven’t touched. This is where we need to take the time to clean up our Mac, make it faster, softer and have more free memory.

Here I will guide you 3 simple ways to uninstall a software on your Mac, helping you to clean up your computer faster and easier:

Method 1:

  • Open Launchpad
  • Go to the software you want to delete, click and hold it until you see the software “shaking”.
  • Click the “x” mark on the software icon to proceed with deletion
  • Go to Trash and empty Trash so that the installation files are erased

Method 2:

  • Drag and drop directly the software you want to delete into the trash

Method 3:

  • Open the Finder
  • Find the Application folder
  • Go to the software you want to delete, right-click and select “Move to Trash”
  • As usual, remember the Trash and empty Trash so that the installation files are erased

Normally, uninstalling a software on a Mac is as simple as guiding it above. However, there are some software such as Adobe or Microsoft that store odd files in different places and they will not be deleted when we remove the software. So sometimes we need to use another way to make sure every file related to the software we decide to remove is thoroughly removed. Now I see two ways:

  • Some vendors will provide users with a software removal tool. Users will download this tool and run it to uninstall. The uninstaller will remove all “junk” files created from the software. However, the number of software that supports this tool is very small.
  • A better way, but it costs money, is to install software from third parties such as Clean My Mac or AppDelete to support uninstall. These software will automatically search for files related to the software the user wants to remove and delete them all in one click.
